Welcome to Maple and Me!

Maple and Me is blog about my life with my partner in Fairbanks, Alaska. Maple is from Louisville, Kentucky, whilst I was born and raised in Alaska. We have built our daily life around the shared values of sustainability, DIY and finding humor in the small things. Maple works as a manager at a local print shop, while I work as an admin at the local University Campus. I also run a small theatre company Revive the Red Tent that seeks to bring local, independent theatre to the Interior community.

Maple and myself currently reside in our sweet, little Garagehome while we slowly but steadily build our own sustainable, energy efficient Homehome out of materials we buy, scrap and collect. The Garagehome is the coziest 672 square foot structure you ever saw.

We spend a lot of time outdoors; hunting, fishing, foraging and trapping. We’re constantly working to get off the grid and out of the grocery store, and instead homestead, farm and find/forage as much of our food, clothing and building supplies as we can.

We both love fashion, food and art, and work to incorporate them into our everyday life on a budget that is simultaneously working to save for kids and an eventual homestead. This leads to lots of work-for-trade, finding art/food/material at the ol’ Transfer Site, and savoring the small things – such as a warm fire, or a really good molasses cookie.

I’m happy to be able to share my passions and adventures with friends and family, both in-state, and around the country.
