Weekly Wednesday

Listening to lots of ‘Builders and the Butchers‘ while I do the dishes. I’ve started doing the dishes every Saturday; a nice little ritual to clean/relax from the busy-ness of the week.

Learning that due, to necessity, Maple and myself will need to build a ‘Chicken Shack’ this summer. The wood designated for our ‘Chicken Palace’ is still holding up the house that Maple and a friend are assiduously tearing down on Saturday mornings. Due to time constraints and limited building materials our sweet layers will need to make do with something less spacious and grand than we had initially planned (but their upgrade mid-June will be SWEET.)

Loving that Maple and myself broke most of the hard pack off the driveway this weekend. Though it was exhausting, back and hand breaking work, IT’S MOSTLY DONE, which is an amazing accomplishment. It also makes going down our driveway about 95% less scary than it was before.

The driveway. About 1/3 of the way up.

Maple broke it up with a spade. I threw it off the side.

Dirt! Dirt on our driveway!

Tired already with a lot of work to go. Smiling anyway.

Perspective. Hard pack snow is HEAVY.

The larger chunks probably weighed 10-15 lbs each.

Waves of hard pack.

  1. Interesting post for those of us in the lower 48. I thought you would just wait till it melted, but I guess that’s even worse as it turns into ice.
