What a weekend! Maple, myself, our friends Matt and Mandy and their dog Kiji took off into the White Mountains for the weekend. I love the White Mountains; I always feel like I get a spiritual recharge being out there.
We couldn’t have asked for better weather (blue, blue skies and moderate temps) or finer company. All together we brought enough food for a week long stay and due to the fact that we were on snow machines we could easily haul all of it out there and back.
Friday was an easy 7-miles out and some delicious pasta with caribou spaghetti sauce courtesy of Mandy. That night a thin strip of the Northern Lights spanned the length of the sky – it was absolutely beautiful. Saturday started off with 8 AM pancakes followed with an hour long nap to digest the pancakes. We then geared up for a 47 mile round-trip. We ran into a ton of overflow which slowed us down a bit. (Overflow refers to the run-off from streams and creeks that freezes solid and creates large, distorted icy chunks of trail. The danger of Overflow is when the ice is not solid all the way through and the weight of bodies (or snow machines) will break through the ice into openly running water. Overflow is often a topic at Trapper’s Meetings.)
What follows are the highlights of the roughly 200 photos I took. Enjoy the photographic tour of the Whites!
Cheers and Love,
Maple and Me
I love this! Feels like I’m there right along with you in those beautiful mountains.
Thanks Auntie Carolyn! Someday we’ll have to show you the Whites in person!
xoxo
